National School Lunch Program a federally assisted meal program operating in public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day.

NJ Department of Human Services Department of Human Services is a website that provides a comprehensive list of all programs and services supported by the state.

NJ211.org is an informational hotline that can be dialed from any phone and available online, searchable social service directory with ‘chat’ function.

NJHelps.org is a one-stop website designed to screen individuals for eligibility to over 30 social service programs. Individuals can go in independently or with the assistance of a case-manager or constituent services staff member and apply for services such as Food Stamps, welfare assistance and NJ FamilyCare health insurance.

Neighborhood Connections helps residents of Northern and Central New Jersey, Burlington County residents, and those looking for employment find appropriate assistance that will give them hope and help them to move towards employment and self-sufficiency.

HOUSING

The NJ Housing Resource Center is an online tool for listing affordable housing, helping people with disabilities find housing and finding housing information.

The Homelessness Prevention Program provides short term assistance to applicants meeting the program’s eligibility guidelines. For renters facing eviction, go to www.nj.gov/dca/divisions/dhcr/ offices/docs/hppcontacts.pdf. For homeowners facing foreclosure call 1-888-989-5277.

The Mortgage Assistance Program - Sometimes it only takes a couple of emergency expenditures to deplete the monthly budget and set a person or family back months in bill payments.  The Mortgage Assistance Program provides funding to homeowners to bring mortgages current or to refinance or renegotiate the terms of the mortgage.  Homeowners work with a counseling agency to determine eligibility.

FOOD ASSISTANCE

NJSNAP - New Jersey's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program helps people stretch their food dollars on a debit-like card.  Individuals with incomes at or below $1,680 per month or $20,160 per year, and families with incomes at or below $3,447 per month or $41,364 per year (for a family of four) may be eligible.

End Hunger NJ.org helping individuals and families locate food assistance at food pantries and/or soup kitchens. The site also provides nutritional advice and information about food safety.

ENERGY AND UTILITY ASSISTANCE

LIHEAP - The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program helps people afford home heating and cooling costs.  The amount of the LIHEAP heating benefit is determined by income, household size, fuel type and region.

HEALTH INSURANCE

NJ FamilyCare - Children in families with incomes as much as $78,225 per year for a family of four are eligible. The plan includes primary care, specialists, hospitalization, prescription and dental benefits.  Even if your income is higher, your child may still qualify for low-cost health insurance through NJ FamilyCare Advantage.

MENTAL HEALTH

Designated Psychiatric Screening/Crisis Centers provides a list of the mental health screening centers and related hotline numbers by county.

NJ Addictions Hotline (Dial 211 or 1-800-238-2333) which provides trained clinically supervised telephone specialists who are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to educate, assist, interview and/or refer individuals and families battling addictions. Calls are free and information shared is confi dential.

CHILD CARE

Child Care Resource and Referral Centers services include information and referral to help parents locate child care resources and to answer typical questions regarding types of child care, how to pay for care, and even how to become family day care and licensed child care providers
