History

Fisherman's Mark was founded in March 1980 as an outgrowth of ministry set in motion by Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church.

The founding board of trustees specified that Fisherman's Mark would:

  • be independent from Saint Andrew's Church
  • have its own board and separate tax exempt number
  • not seek funding from any specific county, and thereby not geographically restricted as to the people it could serve

Helping those of low and moderate income was the initial focus of Fisherman's Mark and remains such today, yet any individual who comes to The Mark is served. There are no financial qualifiers.

Our name has meaning: from Saint Andrew, a fisherman who brought people to a safe haven, and the belief of the founding board that each person leaves a mark where they live, play and work. At Fisherman's Mark, we have dedicated ourselves to helping others make their mark the best it can be.
